As a parent of a "almost" level 4 girl, (she's six and just getting into the team program), my thing is "Isn't this supposed to be fun for them?" My daughter loves it and is having fun, that's what I think is important for her at this age. She is lucky enough to have an awesome coach that makes working hard fun, too. As she gets older,(and she continues to progress) SHE will have to make the choice about how competitve she wants to be. I don't feel I need to push, she expects more from herself at 6 than most kids twice her age, I don't have to add to that!

I agree that gymnastics schools can absolutely benefit from producing top notch gymnasts (be it at a regional or national level). However, I think gym owners must remember that they are there for the gymnasts also. I have coached many competitions where the other coaches were just brutal with their gymnasts (little kids) because they were not performing the way they wanted them to. It does us no good to build strong programs if we end up tearing down the children to get there.

We were using jackrabbit and liked it actually. It isn't that bad but it certainly won't win any beauty contests. At a gymnastics convention in SanDiego a year or so ago, we met up with the iclass people and saw it up close and personal.

One of our coaches was commenting on how user friendly and pretty the iclass stuff was so we signed up for the free trial. After a few weeks of using it we decided to stop using jackrabbit software and start using iclass. It was slow at first when we started importing everything but after calling it was all fixed up. Now we've been happy customers and continue to be so. Amazingly, they've added every single feature we required. We're certainly fans.

I've struggled with GymSOFT for 4 years. It's account and account statement functions are not fully coordinated, the fatal problem being that, in the event of account modification, statements will not date new entries as entered on an account, thus making the invoicing process useless. Other difficulties exist in the statement creation function if automated billing is engaged. You have to disengaged the auto function, create a statement, and re-engaged the auto function updating the start date to avoid continual daily rebilling. I've managed to figure out most of the challenges, but GymSOFT has not yet fixed the fatal statement dating problem since I brought it to their attention in 2007. I need an efficient way to invoice accounts and am now in search of less time-consuming, workable software.

After trying multiple software packages, we found iClassPro for our gym and have been VERY pleased with the level of service and the quality of the software. It is web based, so that took some getting used to, but now we wonder how we did without online registration.

Nice post.
But I don't recognize much from the situations I've dealt with.
Maybe you means children with an autism spectrum disorder, and not classic autism.

I know quite some kids on the spectrum who are not able to participate because of the noises, orbecause they can't anticipate in teamplays.

<abbr><em>Laane’s last blog post..<a href="http://www.laaneworld.com/2009/05/need-fairy.html" rel="nofollow">Need a fairy</a></abbr></em>
